Ask State Reps to restore $3.7 million for community colleges

ACTION NEEDED:
Please contact your State Representatives and ask them if they will SUPPORT a motion to override the Governor's item reduction veto of $3.7 million in state funding for community colleges. Then contact the ICCTA office (1-800-454-2282) or iccta@communitycolleges.org) to let us know of your findings.

ISSUE:
The Illinois Community College Trustees Association is requesting that the Illinois General Assembly override the Governor's item reduction veto of "hold harmless" funds during next week's veto session. These funds were to be fully distributed to 30 of the state's 39 community college districts to transition from one method of distributing the base operating grant to a new formula distribution. Details regarding this issue are attached in a letter that ICCTA executive director Gary Davis has sent to the Speaker of the House (click here to view Davis' letter to Speaker Madigan).

The Governor's item reduction veto cut the $7.4 million appropriation approved by the General Assembly to $3.7 million.

DEADLINE:
It is imperative that ICCTA determine which members of the Illinois House of Representatives will vote to override the Governor's item reduction veto. We need your responses by 5 PM on Friday, Oct. 31. Undecideds will be recorded as "no." Your immediate assistance is greatly appreciated.
