ICCTA Board Highlights
Jan. 15, 2002

The ICCTA Board of Representatives took the following actions at its Jan. 12, 2002, meeting at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Springfield, Illinois:

  • Reviewed the structure and funding of adult education in Illinois. Sixty-three percent of funds are provided by the state of Illinois; 37 percent comes from the federal government;

  • Welcomed former Morton College trustee Mary Karasek as an Associate Member;

  • Learned that the ICCTA Diversity Committee's will sponsor a "Best Practices" session at the March ICCTA meeting;

  • Were reminded to register for ICCTA's Feb. 12-13 Federal Fly-in in Washington, D.C.;

  • Were encouraged to attend Gov. George Ryan's State of the State/Budget Address on February 20 at the State Capitol;

  • Approved ICCTA's legislative agenda for 2002;

  • Heard that Gov. Ryan has restored 80 percent of the funds for higher education programs at Illinois correctional centers. The budget cuts affect 10 community colleges;

  • Requested nominations for ICCTA president-elect, secretary and treasurer for 2002 - 2003. The ICCTA Nominating Committee will interview interested candidates on Friday evening, March 8;

  • Adopted a resolution in support of the Illinois Board of Higher Education's FY 2003 budget request for higher education;

  • Reaffirmed "open access," "low tuition," and "local control to serve local needs" as core values of the Trustees Association;

  • Adopted a resolution supporting increased capital funding for community colleges in FY 2003; and

  • Asked trustees to plan to attend the June 30 - July 3 Leadership and Core Values national conference in Chicago, sponsored by the Illinois Community College Board, ICCTA and other college organizations.
