ICCTA Board Highlights
June 23, 2003

The ICCTA Board of Representatives took the following actions at its June 23, 2003, meeting at the Embassy Suites Downtown-Lakefront Hotel in Chicago, Illinois:

  • Encouraged trustees to ask Gov. Rod Blagojevich to sign House Bill 1119, which would double the Illinois Incentive for Access grant for low-income students;

  • Approved a partial reduction of ICCTA dues so that no member college will pay more than a 4% increase for 2003-2004;

  • Elected ICCTA officers for 2003-2004:
           * Rev. Albert Tyson III (Chicago) – vice president
           * Tom Bennett (Parkland) – secretary
           * Don Johannes (Rock Valley) – treasurer
    Jake Rendleman (Logan) will assume the presidency of ICCTA on July 1;

  • Recognized ICCTA's officers, committee and regional chairs, and organizational liaisons for 2002-2003;

  • Honored the recipients of ICCTA's 2003 Trustee Education Award: Barbara Barton and Kris Howard (Harper), Ed Ledvina (Morton), Jim Lane, Jr. (Illinois Eastern Community Colleges), Vickie Miller (Danville Area Community College), Barbara Oilschlager (Lake County), James Polk (Illinois Central College), Lin Warfel (Parkland), and Dr. Wayne Green (Sandburg);

  • Congratulated 2003 Ray Hartstein Trustees Achievement Award recipient John Ahern (Black Hawk);

  • Learned that the Illinois Presidents Council has selected the following officers for 2003-2004:
           * Dr. Terry Ludwig (Shawnee) -- chair
           * Dr. Jon Astroth (Heartland) – vice chair
           * Dr. Alice Jacobs (Danville) – secretary/treasurer

  • Acknowledged two sponsors of ICCTA's annual convention: the Illinois Community College Risk Management Consortium, and Schiff, Hardin & Waite;

  • Were updated on state legislative and budget issues. Gov. Blagojevich has yet to sign the FY 2004 community college budget, which includes $7.4 million to implement proposed changes in the community college funding formula;

  • Heard that the Illinois Community College Board and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity have held positive discussions on workforce training issues;

  • Were informed that ICCB will host a Leadership and Core Values conference on Jan. 29-30, 2004, in Springfield.
