ICCTA Board Highlights
March 11, 2002

The ICCTA Board of Representatives took the following actions at its March 9, 2002, meeting at the Oak Brook Hills Resort and Conference Center in Oak Brook, Illinois:

  • Learned that the Trustee Education Committee is developing briefing papers on community college funding issues;
  • Commended the Diversity and P-16 Partnerships committees for sponsoring successful "Best Practices" sessions on these issues;
  • Approved the association’s fiscal year 2003 budget. The association is drawing upon its reserves to limit its dues increase to 4.3 percent;
  • Were informed that Maxine Hill (Oakton) will serve as Illinois’ new representative to the Association of Community College Trustees, and that Jim Ayers (Parkland) and Dave Maguire (Spoon River) are running for the ACCT board this fall;
  • Adopted a revised 2002 legislative agenda for the Trustees Association;
  • Received the Nominating Committee’s recommended slate of officers for 2002-2003:
    * Jake Rendleman (Logan) -- vice president
    * Rev. Albert Tyson (Chicago) -- treasurer
    * Patti Wojcikowski (South Suburban) -- secretary
    The ICCTA Board of Representatives will elect officers at its June 15 annual meeting in Springfield;
  • Heard that ICCTA’s annual convention will focus on assessing student outcomes. U.S. Undersecretary of Education Carol D’Amico has been invited to address trustees and presidents on this issue;
  • Discussed how boards might approach their discussion of the upcoming economic impact study report;
  • Reviewed Gov. George Ryan’s proposed FY 2003 budget for community colleges, which calls for a 3.3 percent decrease in community college funding (or an $11-million shortfall) when compared to the state’s original FY 2002 budget; and
  • Reminded trustees that ICCTA Lobby Day will be held Wednesday, April 17, in Springfield.
