Danville Area Community College

Kathy Sturgeon's love for science and teaching is apparent in the banner headline on her faculty web site: "Thumbs up for mathematics and physics!"

As co-director of Danville Area Community College's 21st Century Scholars program, she has developed tours of local industries to help students move from school to work. Her colleagues credit her with single-handedly marketing Danville's engineering program and increasing internship opportunities for students.

Sturgeon also brings science to life by coordinating "Space Jam," "Spaced Out" and "Physics is Phun" events for kids, as well as a Career Scene Investigation for high school students interested in engineering.

Her web site also features this quote from children's author Shel Silverstein:
