ICCTA Outstanding Faculty Member Award
2007 Recipient
Jane Wu
College of DuPage
|
Great teaching comes from the heart, and Jane Wu embodies all the
attributes of a great teacher.
Having lived in China and the United States, Wu holds a unique perspective on everyday life in both countries.
She eagerly shares those experiences with her history and Chinese language students at the College of DuPage.
Blending Eastern and Western philosophies in her classroom, Wu offers constant encouragement along with constructive
criticism. |

ICCTA's 2007 Outstanding Faculty Member Award
from COD trustee Mary Mack, ICCTA president (and COD trustee) Kathy Wessel, and COD board chair
Micheal McKinnon. |
Her students benefit not only from her expert teaching but from her compassion
as a mentor and advisor.
A once-homeless student credits Wu with encouraging him to stay in school and transfer to the University of California
at Berkeley, where he eventually graduated with honors.
Another former student transferred to a four-year university but continued to meet with her once a week as an
independent study student. He later decided to continue his study of the Chinese language in Taiwan.
Wu has also shared her knowledge of history and Chinese culture with the community at large.
Her work with the COD Asia Committee and Asia Forum has encouraged cross-cultural understanding and brought Asian
culture to the Midwest.
In addition, she is a regular panelist on WTTW-TV's "Chicago Tonight" and on the Chicago Council of Global Affairs'
"China Roundtable."
