ICCTA Lifelong Learning Award

John McDowell
Elgin Community College

John McDowell is a retired grade-school teacher who continues to pursue his love of learning. During the past 16 years, he has accrued nearly 300 credit hours for coursework in science, math, music, and foreign languages.

In addition to earning a certificate in paralegal studies in 1995, he has learned to play the piano and clarinet and regularly performs with the Elgin Community College Concert Band. He also tutors fellow students in microbiology.

"I found that Elgin Community College has provided me with a constant source of inspiration and enrichment in my quest to fulfill my desire to learn," says McDowell.
