ICCTA Outstanding Legislator Award
2010 Recipient
The Hon. Edward Maloney
18th District
Illinois Senate
|
Senator Edward Maloney serves as chair of the Illinois Senate
Higher Education Committee.
He sponsored and passed House Bill 4189, major legislation that clarified that community colleges
are units of local government subject to the local government provisions of the State Employees
and Officials Ethics Act. This bill was a critically important piece of legislation affecting all
39 community college districts in the state.

When then Gov. Blagojevich vetoed HB 4189, Sen. Maloney successfully
overrode the governor's veto, and the bill became law.
Sen. Maloney has handled many other important community college bills in the Senate, including
legislation to improve campus security and police powers on Illinois community college campuses. He works
hard to protect the interests of students.
Besides his work as a state lawmaker, Sen. Maloney is an assistant principal and dean of faculty at
Brother Rice High School in Chicago, and a teacher, counselor and administrator at Oak Lawn Community High School.
